“How do I stay in shape?” Getting fit is one thing but staying there can also be quite the challenge. It’s a whole new lifestyle when you’re focused on improving your physical wellbeing and getting stronger and faster.
Ya know, those gals you see on Instagram who seem to be killing it all day every day and looking amazing at the same time? It’s no secret how they do what they do. And you can do it, too! Which is why today I’m bringing you habits of women who are always in shape.
It sounds simple, but drinking water is a key part to maintaining fitness. If you want to get in shape or stay in shape, drinking plenty of water is a non-negotiable.
When you work up a sweat in a workout, the body flushes toxins out with the water. If you’re not hydrated enough, your body won’t be able to cleanse itself and dedicate other resources to building muscle and improving metabolic processes. All the gunk left in your body will slow everything down, impeding your progress in the gym or on the mat (or wherever you workout).
A rule of thumb is to aim for at least half your body weight in ounces of water every day. That means if you weigh 100 pounds, you need to drink 50 ounces of water per day. If you weigh 150 pounds, then shoot for 75 ounces of water. You might need more if you’ve had a particularly heavy sweat.
Push The Boundaries
Your comfort zone is where staying in shape goes to die. Get in the habit of pushing the boundaries and getting outside of your comfort zone in all areas of your life, not just fitness. The bar will constantly be raising for yourself as you increase in fitness, no matter who you are. Even Olympic athletes are pushing for that half second faster or centimeter farther.
Get comfortable in the discomfort. The workout is always going to burn, so you might as well get used to it and learn to enjoy it.
Get Enough Sleep
Women who stay in shape need sleep. If you’re staying in shape, that means you’re doing some level of physical activity and pushing your body every day. The body needs time to recover and assimilate all the good things you did for it that day. Even on rest days — especially on rest days — your body needs rest!
Fit women know that they need sleep and make time for it. Even if that means blocking it out in your calendar, unplugging the TV and hour early, or dedicating yourself to a nightly routine of champions to improve your sleep quality. Get your beauty rest, babe!
You don’t get in shape by doing one-off workouts or half-assing your nutrition. Sticking to your plan and following through every day is crucial to staying fit. Use it or lose it! Fitness is a lifestyle that requires intention and consistency. Eat healthy every day. Move your body every day, even if it’s restorative on a rest day. Get enough sleep every night.
The longer you maintain your routine that keeps you in shape, the more you’re going to notice if you start slipping in one area or have a day that’s totally off. Your body is used to the activities that keep you feeling strong and healthy. Live the lifestyle every damn day.
Women who stay in shape know when it’s time to cut the BS. Making excuses for eating something you know you shouldn’t or skipping workouts or not giving it your A-game won’t keep you fit. Don’t make excuses for yourself or others. Be your own best accountability buddy and #dowork.
